What is Enhanced Cleaning Protocol?

The Enhanced Cleaning Protocol provides clear step-by-step instructions to take the guesswork out of cleaning—and to help you reduce the chances of spreading disease— during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.

General Guidelines for Enhanced Cleaning Protocol:

Increase the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting, focusing on high-touch surfaces, such as residence hall communal rooms, public restrooms, exercise rooms, library tables, buttons, handrails, tables, faucets, doorknobs, shared toys, and shared keyboards. Increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting with attention to these areas helps remove bacteria and viruses, including the novel coronavirus.
Practice good hand hygiene after cleaning. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and warm water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
Once a room or hard surface is clean, spray the area using an electrostatic sprayer with the proper disinfectant. Focus on frequently touched surfaces, objects and shared places like reception and cafeteria, as well as areas that may have been touched by soiled linens.
Follow the dwell time specified by the disinfectant manufacturer. The product label will specify the wet contact time needed for the chemicals to sanitize a surface effectively. Wet contact time allows the chemicals time to kill as many germs as possible.
Allow air-drying. If the surface dries before the wet contact time, there’s no guarantee that the product has killed the pathogens claimed on the label. When possible, allow the surface to air-dry.
Facilities can also better manage their staff by providing them with improved technologies, such as an electrostatic sprayer. For high-traffic places such as reception and cafeteria, staff can disinfect throughout the day and usually in under 30 seconds with an electrostatic sprayer.
Check your disinfectant to ensure that it is on the EPA N List and/or the Health Canada approved list for disinfectants that will fight COVID-19.
